Comcast Buys Majority Stake of NBC Universial

By Jameson Fleming

Comcast will pony up almost 14 billion dollars to take the majority control of NBC Universial studioes. This deal means Comcast could soon rival the influence Disney has in the entertainment community.

The deal, if it clears regulatory barriers, could revolutionize the way users get their content. Comcast could dramatically speed up the time it takes for Universial's movies to reach DVD release and air on television.

Comcast would also work to improve distribution of television shows to other forms of multi-media. Comcast would likely push the development of content syndication for cell phones.

While Comcast will buy 51 percent of the shares, General Electric will hold onto the other 49 percent, but will have the option to sell those shares off as well.
