Oneida Nation to Produce Cigarettes

The Oneida Indian Nation says they will now make their own cigarettes. According to the Syracuse Post-Standard http://www.syracuse.com/, the tribe has purchased a cigarette manufacturing plant in Erie County for $6.6 million.

Turning Stone Resort and Casino is just one property the nation ownes. They also run a dozen gas stations, a gaming software company, and five golf courses.

The new Niagra and Bishop cigarettes will be sold at a discounted price of $30 per carton, compared to brand-name cigarettes that cost double the price. Each year $34 million of cigarettes are purchased in areas of Angola, NY. The cigarettes are sold in the Indian-run discount stores in up-state New York.
