According to the Syracuse Post-Standard, http://www.syracuse.com/ , a former Solvay High School teacher was sentenced today to probation and jail for having a sexual relationship with a teenage student. "I made a mistake. I have to start paying for it," Kolbee Kearns told County Judge Anthony Aloi.
Kearns, 24, of 178 Sunhill Terrace, Syracuse, pleaded guilty and admitted that he engaged in sexual conduct with a 16-year-old girl in January. Judge Aloi offered Kearns a 10 year probation term with the first four months in the Onandago County Correctional Facility in Jamesville.
Kearns was already in his second year as a probationary science teacher, and is now being forced to resign from teaching at Solvay High School. Kearns will turn in his teaching certificate for good.
