By Kaci LindhorstIn the town of Clay, 23-year-old Alex Martinez told a judge that he intentionally killed his 21-year-old wife Angela Harris on April 18th. Martinez plead guilty to strangling Harris and dumping her body in the Duchess County Reservoir.
According to Syracuse.com, he will now serve a sentence at minimum of twenty years to life in prison. The couple has an infant son that was present at the time of the murder and will now be raised by Harris's mother.
Assistant district attorney Melinda McGunnigle said the defense had been planning to argue that Martinez was acting under extreme emotional disturbance at the time of the murder. That defense can be used to try and lessen intentional murder to first-degree manslaughter.
